How a traveling Leonardo da Vinci inventions exhibit could find a permanent home in Pueblo

Recreations of Leonardo da Vinci’s most innovative machines are stored in a pair of earth-covered PuebloPlex igloos 15 miles from Pueblo.

Robotic drummers, flying machines, catapults, 15th-century cars and other creations stored at PuebloPlex have toured the country in traveling exhibitions but Pueblo community leaders are working to establish a permanent space for the machines and other exhibitions at the Southern Colorado Science Center.

The Southern Colorado Science Center is a planned concept for a Pueblo museum containing a Da Vinci Museum of Machines and Robotics, along with STEAMworks — an interactive science, technology, engineering, arts and math exhibit. There are also long-term plans to host a planetarium.

“The Artisans (of Florence) have been looking for about five years for a permanent exhibit or a place to put a permanent exhibit rather than rotating exhibits,” said Joe Arrigo, chair of the Southern Colorado Science Center board of directors.
